Price Paid:  $1400.00 at Sun Bike in Milpitas

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
Around Bay Area

Bike Setup:
Stock + Bontrager crankset replaced with Shimano 105 under warrantee + Speed V saddle

Summary:
I called around for Trek Madone to replace Giant OCR 2 and Sun Bike said they have Trek 5000 in my size on sale. I went down, test rode and bought it.

I've rode several times between South Bay and SF since then, and it rides so much better than my old bike. It's lighter and obsorbs bumps much better.

People talked about the saddle being uncomfortable. It's true. It's way too soft and pushes onto tender area in your groin. It does not provide much damping either because it's too soft. I replaced it with my old Speed V Saddle on Cro-Moley and it rides soooo much better.

Only compariable carbon triple bike you are going to find at around $1400 is Motobecane Century Pro. It seems to have a good review, but the frame look more like aluminum than carbon for some reason. But check it out if you are in the market, now that trek 5000 is no longer available.

Strengths:
Light, comfortable.

Weaknesses:
Saddle, replace it immediately to truly appreciate the carbon frame. Ticking noise from either chain or BB.

Price Paid:  $1700.00 at LBS

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
key biscane, miami FL

Bike Setup:
STOCK WITH SPECIALIZED BG TOUPE SADDLE AND BONTRAGER RACE LITE TIRES.

Summary:
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND FOR A ROAD BIKE AND THE TREK CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. THE PRICE WAS RIGHT FOR A FULL CARBON BIKE. THIS IS MY FIRST CARBON RIDE AND ALL I CAN TELL YOU ITS THAT A LOVE EVERY MINUTE THAT I'M ON IT RIDING IT.

Strengths:
CARBON FRAME ABSORB ROAD BUMPS LIKE IF YOU ARE DRIVING A CADILLAC, BUT YET STIFF LIKE A FERRARI AT THE RACE TRACK. LIKE A SAID BEFORE, I HAVE ONLY OWNED FOR 2 WEEKS AND A ALREADY HAVE 350 MILES ON IT. CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT. SHIMANO 105 AND ULTEGRA MAKES A NICE COMBO.

Weaknesses:
SADDLE LOOKS AND FEEL HORRIBLE. MY ADVISE, CHANGE IT BEFORE YOU RIDE THE BIKE. SOMETHING MAKES A SQUEAKING SOUND IN THE FORK WHEN A GET OF THE SADDLE AND PUSH HARD. DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS YET. NEED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE LBS TO CHECK IT UP. BUT BESIDE THOSE 2 PROBLEMS THE BIKE ITS FLAWLESS.

Price Paid:  $1500.00 at The Bike Store

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
No traffic

Summary:
First Road Bike, couldn't resist a great deal on a quality carbon frame bike. Have owned several Trek mountain bikes, have always been great quality and reliable. Have 500 miles on this one, no real complaints thusfar.

Strengths:
Decent components, smooth ride, good looking bike, reliable

Weaknesses:
More color options would be good. Saddle could be better, but getting used to it.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
Smooth Roads

Bike Setup:
I replaced the wheels with bontrager race x-lite aero's, tires are bontrager race x-lite, and the seat is a bontrager race lite.

Summary:
I have had this bike for a year now. The bike currently has 2000 miles on it. 1500 road miles and 500 trainer miles. I commute to work during the spring summer and fall roughly 30 miles roundtrip. I also road this bike in the RAGBRAI ride this past year. I ended up cracking the stock rear wheel during the RAGBRAI ride. I noticed one crack by the spoke hole in the morning, by the end of the day all the spoke holes were cracked. This was probably 100% my fault because I was carrying an extra 30lbs on a rear rack. Trek was awesome though, since they had a booth at the ride, they gave me a new wheel the same day free of charge. I am planning on racing this bike this year. All in all, I am extremely happy with this bike.

Strengths:
The frame is light, and it absorbs all the bumps in the road. The components are decent with a mix of ultegra and 105.

Weaknesses:
The rear stock wheel cracked around the spokes during my RAGBRAI ride. The stock seat isn't comfortable and it looks lame.
